The Awful Truth

Heard this evening at the dinner table...

'Why are we listening to music again? Why can't we just have peace and quiet? <wistful> It was so nice and quiet when you were in Madrid....'

'Because I hate the sound of people masticating. It drives me crazy and sets my teeth on edge. It makes me irrationally angry when I hear chewing. That's why we always have music on when we eat, haven't you noticed?'

'You are telling me this now after we've been together for how many years?

'well, I thought you would have noticed, seeing as how I insist on music at every meal. It's not just for atmosphere.'

'Are you saying we need to be become vegetarians?'

'No, duh, vegetables need chewing too. Its the sound of mastication itself that makes me want to punch someone.'

'oh'

...and so the music plays on...

Yay, I'm not the only one! And it's not just the chewing sounds I can't stand...it's silverware clacking against teeth, and slurping and the sound of liquids pouring. It all makes me irrationally angry! One of the many reasons I prefer semi-noisy restaurants. After all the evaluations we've gone through to diagnose my son's autism I'm chalking this up to some sort of sensory integration issue...

i know the feeling...
music is the only source of comfort in that situation...
let the music play on...

wow, you don't know what a relief to know that i'm not the only one clenching my teeth against the nightly dinnertime assault on the senses...

This is the funniest thing I have heard in a while. I have known you a long time and never knew this!

So *that's* why Cherie always had music on! heh heh heh
