Barcelona foodie pics

Here are some Barcelona pics to get you salivating...just haven't got time at the moment to write anything up, maybe over the weekend...

These pics were all taken at the fabulous food market, La Boqueria.

Bamboomusselthingies

I was perplexed when we first came across these strange-looking bamboo-esque mussels. They were wrapped up in bundles, looking for all the world like some sticks of bamboo. Then I noticed their creamy white tongues lolling slowly in and out of their mouths....weird! I had no idea what they were, only that they were some kind of seafood. At least you could tell they were fresh. Later, when we came home I happened across an episode of some series of Rick Stein's, and lo and behold, there they were - razor clams! Mystery solved.

Figclose

How could anyone resist a fig so delicious?

Figs

...and so cheap??? In Switzerland figs were selling for 1 franc EACH recently.

Gelati

Oh, gelati, you know the way to my heart.

Mangoes

Mushrooms

Now 'tis the time for mushies, of all shapes and sizes

Peaches_1

Mmm, peaches

Pearsavocadoes

Luscious pears, so pale and sweet!

Vongole

Weirdpinkfruit

Can anyone tell me the name of this fruit?

Weirdseafood

And likewise these bizarro seafood thngies????? They look like claws to me, but I'm sure they're not.

I think it's a dragon fruit. Great pics!

I agree, I think it is a dragon fruit. Very weird looking, don't know what it tastes like!

It doesn't taste as good as it looks

the claw-like thingies are goose barnacles - apparently harvested from around these parts (british columbia) for export to spain. who knew?

It is dragon fruit and is simmilar to kiwi, a bit milder. The ones that I have had were pretty good.....if you like kiwi

Hola!

the seafood are barnacles. They are really expensive here, in Spain. One kilo can cost 750€. They are delicious ..... 100% sea taste! We just boil them and take out the flesh inside. Try them next time. Don´t miss the experience!

Nice blog!

these fruits I use sometime.
In Belgium whe call theme "Pitagaya"

I really really love this website!
The fruit is definitely called dragon fruit, they come with a reddish or yellow flesh as well and are common in asia. They can be a bit too tart if they are not ripe enough. Here is a website if you would like to read up on it.

I think I'll have to add Barcelona to my list of places to visit.
